| Anyone can start a LOGS Chapter at
his/her school. All you need is a little motivation to get the
club on its feet and running, a little courage, and a lot of Jersey
Pride. Let us know if you're
planning on sparking up a chapter on your campus, and we'll help you
in your efforts in every way possible.
Many people wonder what type of
activities the Jersey club engages in, and LOGS founder
Mike Kirkland explains:
"For the past four years,
we had weekly meetings to discuss all things Jersey. Over the
years, we have created a LOGS pledge of allegiance (which we recite
to the N.J. state flag at the start of each meeting), we enlighten
each other with fascinating Jersey trivia, we play the Jersey
geography game, we share stories and opinions of various events and
areas of the state, we decorate our huge LOGS poster with our
pictures atop the spot on the state in which we live, we watch N.J.
movies, we discuss and create LOGS paraphernalia (so far, we have
created long-sleeved shirts, towels, headbands and
hoodies).
We also have the annual LOGS field trip to N.J.
in the Spring. In 2001 we went to Atlantic City to see a Billy
Idol concert and to try our luck at the casinos, and in 2002 we went
to a Nets playoff game. In 2003 we went to a Devils playoff
game, a Yankees day game, and we spent some time in Bernanrdsville.
Then in 2004 we went bowling and had a barbecue in Summit, NJ.
Each member of the club has a
specific position within the organization. For example, I am the
President, while my colleague at JerseyPride.com (and the true
brains behind the whole operation) is the Commissioner of the State
Police. We find that our chosen positions are a fun way to
involve everyone in the organization.
LOGS is known throughout the
Middlebury College campus. In the past year, we were featured in
both Middlebury Magazine (the college’s alumni magazine) as well as
New Jersey Monthly (which, by the way, we have a subscription to- we
read through the issues at meetings, often sparking interest
discussions). Our reputation is quickly spreading outside Vermont,
as Jersey lovers throughout the country are gaining more and more
interest in such Jersey pride. Jeff and I thus decided that it
would be proper and fitting to start a website devoted to this great
pride for New Jersey, so that Jersey fans everywhere, not just in
Middlebury, Vermont, could get in on the action. We hope you enjoy
the site. We’re glad that you too love the great Garden State!"
The possibilities for LOGS clubs
and activities are endless... There are all types of creative ways
to celebrate Jersey on a regular basis, and
we'd love to hear how your club pays homage to the Garden State.
If nothing else, LOGS meetings are a great way to take a break from
the college routine, relax, and just kick it with some good old
Jersey kids.
So why not get some clubs going in
every corner of the U.S. (we Jersey kids are everywhere, you just
can't deny it). With chapters all over the country, maybe we
can develop into a national empire of Jersey lovers. We
encourage you to start your own LOGS chapter and get down with your
own Jersey Pride. |
